Early Striders of the Wheel Renewed

Sepdet chanting at the Firepit in the Wheel Renewed, Dec. 95.

Let me tell you of the Striders of the Wheel Renewed.
First is Horus, Harbinger and prophet,
Here at its finding, here at the opening, Talesinger, Old one,
Bringer of omen, seasoned by decades’ battles.
Alpha he has been, of caern and our tribe;
To Malfeas he went, and Twelve Wyrm-lords rue his passing;
From Malfeas returned, and brought his trophies home.
Warder in the wisdom of his years,
He finally fell in fight against the foe,
A proud old wolf alone and sure to his last step.

Anubis walks in his teacher’s place now,
Keeper of the ways, judge and listener,
Half-moon of Crossing, Harbinger of today.
Wise one, swift fighter, seldom angered,
He stands at the cross-roads, impartial to all.

Thoth there was, Fool and jester,
Uneasy walker between shadow and scab,
Improbable elder, scoffer at prophets,
Yet teacher, coarse and blunt–that was his way.

Anpwhotep, now, Elder in his place,
No-moon too, he holds ways old and new,
Alpha of Renaissance, strives to serve,
And show that Leader can mean Father too.

Nepthys, Wayfarer, speaker of silence,
Your way takes you far from us,
Your fingered wit we remember.

Su, wolf, Child of Owl twice over,
You scent and watch and scout and prove that fools
May have more quiet wisdom than kings.

Hand-of-Sekhmet, Jeremy, human child,
Who came to us a boy,
Followed Anubis’ teachings,
Earned Sekhmet-the-goddess’ favor,
And fell fighting bravely, a true lion,
Defending the Caern that made you a man.

Noor, Aset, Serpent-blinder, Coyote,
Trickster of Striders, temper of the desert wind,
Claws and kindness proven, rashly brave to the end,
We honor you by remembering
To smile, teeth bared, even in battle.

Sepdet is Sepdet, and will speak no word for herself,
save this:
Hope.

Isis and Seeker, newcome wanderers,
We welcome your blades for the battle that lies before us.

Blinks at Fire, Paul, Rholeen, our tribe’s future:
The wild ways, the wise ways, the spirit ways,
We wait to see what you will be.

The rest is Silence,
and time will tell new stories of us all.
